Briefing: UNGPs and The Protection Of The Rights Of Indigenous Peoples In The Context Of Business Operations

I am pleased to share with you this Briefing Paper of the Indigenous Peoples Rights International (IPRI) on Indigenous Peoples, Human Rights and Business Activities. This was prepared as our contribution to the 21stsession of the UN Permanent Forum with the theme of “Indigenous peoples, business, autonomy and the human rights principles of due diligence, including free, prior and informed consent”. 

This briefing paper provides information regarding the UNGuiding Principles on Business and Human Rights -UNGPs, the UNGP+10Roadmap, as well as the work of theUN Working Group on Business and Human Rights- WGBHR in relation to Indigenous Peoples’ rights. It also presents some initiatives undertaken by IPRI and its ally organizations to advance further implementation of UNGPstoensure respect for the UNDeclaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples -UNDRIP and contribute to the end of the violence and criminalization against Indigenous Peoples in the context of business operations.
